Newborn Care

Prenatal Office Visit

An expectant family’s first encounter with Desoto Children’s Clinic and Senatobia Children’s Clinic is often a pre-natal visit, allowing families an in-depth look at the clinic, an opportunity to ask questions and learn about how things work, and a meeting with practice physicians.

In Hospital

Our physicians visit the nurseries at Baptist Desoto Hospital and Methodist Olive Branch Hospital every morning. If your baby is delivered at one of these hospitals, inform the admission office which doctor you have chosen as your pediatrician.

After your baby is born, the hospital will list your baby on our group’s rounding list. Our on-call doctor will visit your baby each morning that you are admitted to the hospital. Please bear in mind that the physician on-call that day may not be your pediatrician.

Neonatologists

If there are concerns about your baby’s health at the hospital, we may consult with or transfer care to one of the neonatology services we have in our area. They communicate with both Desoto and Senatobia Children’s Clinic about the baby’s needs when it’s time to go home.

Newborn Care

Your newborn will be seen in regular, predictable increments of time for the first year of your child’s life – the first checkup being at two weeks old.

If your newborn’s health is a concern at any time you are home, please call any of our offices. We are available 365 days a year in part to make sure your newborn’s needs can be met. If the clinic is closed, please call our office and you will be connected to our answering service that will page the on call doctor for you.

Routine Advice

For more routine newborn questions—and we know there are a lot—you can call and speak with one of our nurses or doctors during the day.
